A Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern needs 1500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy and 100 hours of supervision across no less than 100 weeks, finished inside a five-year registration that cannot be renewed. This page quotes the rule text those numbers come from.

Rule 64B4-2.002 was most recently amended effective 7/6/2026. Board web pages occasionally lag rule amendments. Where they disagree, the effective-dated rule text controls.
Two things have to be true before a single hour counts toward the 1500. You must hold your RMHCI registration, and your supervisor must be board-approved for you specifically.
Section 491.005(1)(c), Florida Statutes, credits only experience supervised by a qualified supervisor, and Rule 64B4-2.0025(1), F.A.C., requires that supervisor to submit Form DH-MQA 5049 before any supervision begins. The same subsection tells the supervisor not to commence supervision until they have confirmed board approval and received an approval letter for each intern under their supervision. Hours logged in the gap between starting a job and receiving that letter are the most common category of lost time in Florida.
Florida sets a floor and a ceiling. You cannot finish faster than 100 weeks no matter how many clients you see, and your registration expires five years after it is issued with no renewal available. Everything has to land between those two dates.
Both dates count from the day your intern registration was issued, using the five-year window in § 491.0045(6), F.S. and the 100-week minimum in FAC 64B4-2.002(1)(a). These dates are estimates. The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling makes the final determination on your registration period and whether your hours qualify.
An intern shall be credited for the time of supervision required by Section 491.005, F.S., if the intern:
(a) Received at least 100 hours of supervision in no less than 100 weeks; and,
(b) Provided at least 1500 hours of face-to-face psychotherapy with clients; and,
(c) Received at least 1 hour of supervision every two weeks.

Guides across the internet describe Florida as requiring one hour of supervision for every 15 psychotherapy hours. That ratio does not appear in the current text of 64B4-2.002. What the rule requires is the three conditions quoted above, and the every-two-weeks cadence is the one most interns actually break during a slow caseload month.
Under 64B4-2.002(4), if you receive group supervision, each hour of group must alternate with an hour of individual supervision, and group supervision must take place in person. Individual supervision means one supervisor with no more than two interns present. Group supervision means three to six interns.
This is the easiest requirement in Florida to break by accident. A group that grows to seven stops qualifying as supervision. Two group sessions in a row, without an individual hour in between, break the alternation.
Separately, face-to-face psychotherapy delivered by electronic means counts toward your 1500 clinical hours. Supervision is the part with the in-person floor, not your client work.
Florida does not ask for quarterly reports, annual filings, or interim sign-offs. Your supervisor completes a Verification of Clinical Experience form covering the whole period they supervised you, and it is submitted with your LMHC application.
That single moment of accounting is exactly why continuous tracking matters here more than in states with periodic reporting. If you switch supervisors twice over two years, each one signs for their own window, and each one has to be able to recognize the numbers in front of them.
